Smith Eye Associates is now Tidal Eye Center!
We pride ourselves on staying equipped with the latest technology in order to provide top level care. Some of the equipment we employ includes:
Ultra-wide field retinal imaging:
The Optomap captures over 80% of your retina in one image that takes less than half a second to capture and is immediately available for review by your doctor. This technology will provide your doctor with a great overview of you retinal health which functions as a screening for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, metastatic cancers, macular degeneration, glaucoma, etc.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT):
The OCT is sometimes referred to as an "MRI of the eye." It provides us with the greatest level of detail when imaging the retina, and allows us to look under the surface. This procedure will detect very early macular degeneration and glaucoma changes and is an important tool in the management of these conditions. It will also image diabetic or hypertensive changes, any bleeding or swelling in the retina or optic nerve, atrophy of tissue, and many other conditions. It can also be used to monitor for medication toxicity from pharmaceuticals such as Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine), Tamoxifen, and Ethambutol among others.
Visual Field:
A visual field test is used to determine the sensitivity of your peripheral vision. This test is important for any condition that may affect your peripheral vision, such as glaucoma. Visual fields can also be used to detect and monitor strokes and other brain lesions. We also utilize this technology to screen for medication toxicity and monitor vision changes from drooping eyelids (dermatochalasis) to see if eyelid surgery is necessary.
